Every two years P/SL Hospital hosts a NICU reunion at the Denver Zoo. It's an opportunity for families to see the doctors and nurses who took such great care of their babies. It included free admittance and lunch.
So we went.
This whole baby thing better will make me turn over a new zoo leaf. You see, I don't like the zoo. I avoid it like the DMV. I spend the whole time feeling sorry for the sad excuse of a habitat these caged animals live in. I know people like to see the animals, and so do I to an extent, but to see them pacing back and forth in such confinement makes me crazy. I was the little girl screaming at the horse and carriage rides downtown "animal abuse!!". Don't get me started on the Rodeo. Do I have issues? Yes. Back off me.
Anyway, each family was asked to send in a picture of their baby in the NICU and a current picture of their wee one. The walls were covered with posters made of these before and afters. There were many sick little babies who looked perfectly healthy now. It was a great testament to the work the docs and nurses do.

It was very cold and poor little A had to wear miss-matched clothes. She'll never forgive me.
When we got home she was so warm from the car ride she looked like a rosacea patient.
We had a great time and are proud owners of stuffed animals of a giraffe and rhino. I
only muttered under my breath 14 times about my true feelings of the animals unnatural homes. Each time my mom or Nate would ask a "wouldn't you rather they be in this cage well fed and taken care of than..." with a confident "no". I'll work on my attitude so I don't end up embarrassing Andrey when she's old enough to know her mom is making a scene.
As for now I'm happy with my healthy little girl. The girl I love so much I went to the zoo.
